Sage Steele Says Skip Bayless Defended Her After Bill Simmons Tried to Remove Her From ‘NBA Countdown’

Veteran broadcaster Sage Steele says fellow commentator Skip Bayless came to her aid during a tense moment behind the scenes of the studio show “NBA Countdown.”
According to Steele, former ESPN analyst and executive producer Bill Simmons sought to have her dropped from the program. Steele said Bayless, who was working at ESPN at the time, objected and successfully persuaded network decision-makers to keep her on the show.
Steele did not specify when the incident took place, but she recalled that Bayless’s intervention directly protected her role on “NBA Countdown” after Simmons made it clear he wanted another host.
The anchor said she remains grateful for Bayless’s support, calling his actions a key factor in allowing her to continue on the popular NBA studio show.
