Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo exited Wednesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons after sustaining a right calf strain less than three minutes into the first quarter at Fiserv Forum.

Head coach Doc Rivers told reporters afterward that Antetokounmpo will undergo an MRI but emphasized the club has ruled out an Achilles injury.

The two-time MVP went down after delivering a jump pass that led to an assist for guard AJ Green with 9:00 remaining in the opening period. While retreating on defense, Antetokounmpo stumbled, checked his right leg, and briefly sat on the floor before teammates helped him to the bench and then to the locker room. Rivers later said a bump from Pistons center Jalen Duren knocked Antetokounmpo off balance immediately before the fall.

Antetokounmpo logged two points, one rebound, and one assist before departing. Milwaukee went on to defeat Detroit 113-109.

The 30-year-old had missed four games in November with a left groin strain but had played in the Bucks’ previous three contests.

The injury occurred amid an ESPN report that Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, are discussing his long-term future with the franchise. Before tipoff, Rivers said “there’s been no conversations” and reiterated that Antetokounmpo “loves Milwaukee and he loves the Bucks.”
