Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond exited Friday night’s matchup against the Brooklyn Nets after suffering a right knee sprain during the first half, the team announced.

Drummond, 32, was hurt while reaching for a defensive rebound when teammate Kyle Lowry made mid-air contact, knocking him off balance. Unable to put weight on his right leg, the veteran was helped to the locker room and later wheeled out of the arena.

An initial evaluation indicated a hyperextended knee, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. Further testing is expected to determine the extent of the damage.

With Drummond sidelined, second-year center Adem Bona — playing his first game back after missing five contests with a right ankle sprain — opened the second half for Philadelphia. The 76ers also welcomed forward Paul George, who returned from a one-game absence caused by his own right ankle sprain.

The injury comes as Drummond had moved into the starting lineup for the past eight games while Joel Embiid continues to sit out with knee soreness. Over that stretch, the two-time All-Star averaged 10.9 points and 13.8 rebounds and had gone 9-for-22 (.409) from three-point range this season.

Drummond is in the final year of a $5 million contract and will become an unrestricted free agent in July. Until he returns, head coach Nick Nurse could expand minutes for Bona, Dominick Barlow, Jabari Walker and Johni Broome.
