The Dallas Mavericks officially designated forward Anthony Davis as questionable for Friday’s road game in Los Angeles after he completed a full practice on Wednesday.
Davis, sidelined the past 14 contests with a left calf strain, acknowledged it has been “surprising and definitely tough” to watch Dallas struggle during his recovery. The Mavericks have dropped 14 of 19 and sit at 5-14 near the bottom of the Western Conference.
Speaking with reporters, Davis also addressed the recent dismissal of former president of basketball operations Nico Harrison. He said the move caught him off guard but added that front-office turbulence and renewed trade speculation will not distract him. “My job is to do what I do on the floor… I’m just ready to get back on the floor,” he said.
Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers list center Deandre Ayton as probable for Friday’s matchup with Dallas. Ayton missed Tuesday’s victory because of a right knee contusion.
Guard Marcus Smart (back spasms) remains questionable. Los Angeles has won six of its last seven games.
Suns
In Phoenix, reserve guard Collin Gillespie seized a starting role Wednesday and produced 21 points and nine assists in a win over Sacramento. Injuries to Jalen Green (right hamstring strain), Grayson Allen (right quad contusion) and Ryan Dunn (right wrist sprain) opened the opportunity.
All three injured players will remain out Friday when the Suns visit Oklahoma City. Phoenix has taken four of its last five while relying on unexpected contributions from its bench.
