San Francisco — Golden State guard Stephen Curry is likely to miss about a week, and possibly a bit longer, after suffering a right quadriceps contusion, according to reports from ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania.
The four-time NBA champion exited Wednesday’s loss to the Houston Rockets with 35 seconds remaining following two fourth-quarter collisions. He was unable to continue and is now undergoing an MRI to confirm the extent of the injury.
The projected timeline rules Curry out of Saturday’s home game against New Orleans and Tuesday’s meeting with Oklahoma City. The Warriors open a three-game road swing next Thursday in Philadelphia, and there is “at least a chance” the two-time MVP could return during that trip, the reports said.
“If Steph has to miss time, it changes everything—our rotations, how we play, who we play through,” head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game.
Golden State also lost guard Gary Payton II to an ankle sprain in the same contest and slipped to 10-10 after dropping four of its last five. Frustrations surfaced in the locker room, where Jimmy Butler criticized the team’s effort, claiming the Warriors “don’t box out and let opponents do whatever they want.” Forward Draymond Green agreed, saying, “Our defense is s***. We are individually f***ing awful.”
The Warriors will continue to evaluate Curry’s progress over the coming days before setting a definitive return date.
