Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon was forced out of Friday’s game against the Houston Rockets after injuring his right hamstring just three minutes into the opening quarter.

The club initially listed the 30-year-old as questionable to return with a right hamstring strain but later ruled him out for the remainder of the contest at Ball Arena.

Gordon had sat out Wednesday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans for “hamstring injury management” before rejoining the lineup on Friday. Last season, he missed significant time with a calf strain and later suffered a Grade 2 strain in his left hamstring during Denver’s second-round playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Through 12 games this fall, Gordon has averaged 20.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in 30.4 minutes, shooting 53.6 percent from the field, 45.2 percent from three and 87.9 percent at the foul line. The Nuggets are plus-20.4 points per 100 possessions when he is on the floor compared with plus-0.8 when he sits.

Denver edged Houston on Friday to move to 12-3, holding the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference. The team has not disclosed the severity of Gordon’s latest injury, and a cautious approach is expected given his importance and the early stage of the season.
