LeBron James has been recalled from the South Bay Lakers and is slated to join the Los Angeles Lakers for full practice on Monday, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Sunday.
The 40-year-old forward was sent to the organization’s G League affiliate on Wednesday, completing several days of scrimmages and 5-on-5 work while the NBA club finished a five-game road trip. According to sources, James took part in every drill without experiencing any lingering discomfort from the sciatica that sidelined him throughout training camp and the first month of the regular season.
Observers familiar with the rehabilitation sessions said James “looked great” and “moved well,” displaying a clear eagerness to rejoin a Lakers team that has opened the year 10-4 and stands fourth in the Western Conference.
Once he steps on the court, James will be the first player in league history to appear in a 23rd season. He hinted at an imminent comeback on Instagram, posting a video of his latest Nike signature shoe alongside an hourglass emoji.
Los Angeles hosts the Utah Jazz on Tuesday before traveling to Salt Lake City for a rematch Sunday. During James’ absence, his son Bronny James earned the second start of his rookie campaign in Saturday’s 119-95 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.
“How about Bronny James starting in the NBA and LeBron’s assigned to the G League? That’s fun. That’s awesome,” guard Austin Reaves said after the win.
