Golden State forward Draymond Green challenged the Warriors’ collective commitment to winning following Tuesday’s lopsided defeat in Oklahoma City, saying the club has strayed from the selfless approach that fueled last season’s late push.
“I think everybody was committed to winning [last year] and doing that any way possible,” Green told reporters. “Right now, it doesn’t feel that way.” He added that while personal goals are common, they must “work within the team confines” or risk undermining the group.
The comments came after Golden State fell to 4-5 in its last nine games. The Warriors ended the 2024/25 schedule on a 23-8 run after acquiring Jimmy Butler and opened the 2025/26 season 4-1, but have since dropped five of seven.
Youth under the microscope
Green declined to single out teammates, yet recent story lines have focused on younger players. Guard Brandin Podziemski spoke before the season about personal ambitions, including a desire to surpass Stephen Curry, while forward Jonathan Kuminga pushed for a larger role during restricted free agency.
Kuminga, who started fast in October, has slowed over the past two weeks, shooting 44.4 percent overall and 25.0 percent from three while averaging more than three turnovers. He had five giveaways in 24 minutes Tuesday.
“I can’t have turnovers. JK can’t have turnovers,” Butler said, echoing head coach Steve Kerr’s call for better ball security.
Veterans accept blame
Curry returned Tuesday after missing three games with an illness but finished with 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting, five fouls and a minus-23 rating in 20 minutes. The star guard acknowledged he too “fell into [the agenda thing] a little bit,” emphasizing that winning habits start with “running the floor, rebounding, taking care of the basketball.”
Road woes continue
All six of Golden State’s losses have occurred away from Chase Center; the team remains 5-0 at home. The Warriors’ road trip continues with back-to-back games in San Antonio on Wednesday and Friday, followed by stops in New Orleans on Sunday, Orlando next Tuesday and Miami next Wednesday before a five-game homestand.
