Central Division Notebook: Hunter’s Sixth-Man Case, Langdon’s Roster Flexibility, Buzelis’ Off-Season Work

Cleveland.com reporter Chris Fedor believes the Cavaliers should keep DeAndre Hunter coming off the bench. Hunter, who opened his first five NBA seasons as a full-time starter in Atlanta, made only nine starts in 64 appearances for Atlanta and Cleveland last year. With Ty Jerome now in Memphis, Fedor argues the Cavaliers need a high-scoring sixth man and views Hunter—who averaged 17.0 points in 27.2 minutes—as the most logical choice. Although Hunter is generally considered more talented than Max Strus, Fedor writes that his playing style fits better with Cleveland’s second unit, giving him more offensive freedom.
Detroit Pistons
In his second year overseeing basketball operations, Pistons president Trajan Langdon continues to prioritize flexibility. According to Keith Langlois of Pistons.com, Langdon added Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert to strengthen the bench without impacting future maneuverability. Detroit is expected to discuss rookie-scale extensions with Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren before the October deadline only if proposed terms align with their on-court production.
Chicago Bulls
Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that second-year forward Matas Buzelis is positioning himself as the centerpiece of the Bulls’ roster amid contract questions involving Coby White and Josh Giddey. Buzelis averaged 22.5 points and 5 rebounds across two Summer League outings and has since focused on strength training and skill development in hopes of making a “special” leap.
Milwaukee Bucks
Former Orlando guard Cole Anthony expressed enthusiasm about joining Milwaukee, noting his excitement in separate comments released by the team.
