The Sacramento Kings have reached a one-year veteran minimum agreement with free-agent center Precious Achiuwa, according to sources cited by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
To clear a roster spot, Sacramento waived second-year big man Isaac Jones, the sources said.
Achiuwa, 26, is entering his sixth NBA season. The 2020 first-round pick began his career with the Miami Heat and logged his most significant run over three seasons with the Toronto Raptors, averaging 8.9 points and 6.1 rebounds across 153 games (21.6 minutes per contest).
In December 2023, the 6-foot-8 center was shipped to the New York Knicks as part of the OG Anunoby trade. He re-signed with New York during the 2024 offseason and provided frontcourt depth the past two campaigns, appearing in 17 playoff games and starting twice.
The move comes as the Kings search for stability after a 2-5 start that includes Monday night’s loss in Denver. Sacramento’s defense is allowing 118.3 points per 100 possessions, the league’s fourth-worst mark.
Fourth-year forward Keegan Murray remains sidelined while rehabbing a torn UCL in his left thumb suffered in the preseason. Veteran guard Russell Westbrook, also on a one-year minimum deal, has been filling Murray’s starting role. Achiuwa is expected to compete immediately for minutes off the bench.
