Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain is on track to play his first game of the season Tuesday night against the Chicago Bulls, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. The second-year player is expected to be listed as probable for the road matchup at United Center.

McCain, 21, tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb during an offseason workout shortly before training camp and underwent surgery. He shed his thumb splint last week and participated in full practice Thursday, clearing the way for his return.

The 6-foot-3 guard was considered a leading Rookie of the Year candidate last season, averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from three in 23 appearances. His rookie campaign ended in December after he suffered a torn lateral meniscus that also required surgery.

Philadelphia enters Tuesday’s game at 5-1, a sharp turnaround from last year’s 2-12 start. McCain joins a backcourt that already features Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes. The 76ers will remain without Paul George and Dominick Barlow, who are still sidelined.
