Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry made it clear that his lone objective for the upcoming season is adding another championship banner in San Francisco.
“I truly believe we can be championship relevant,” the 37-year-old told ClutchPoints’ Julian Ojeda during a recent interview. “We have a team that’s capable of achieving that level again … that’s literally the only thing I’m playing for at this point.”
Curry’s quest for ring No. 5 would place him alongside NBA legends such as Magic Johnson, Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant, each of whom led their franchises to at least five titles.
Butler Trade Revived Warriors’ Season
Golden State surged after acquiring Jimmy Butler, finishing 22-5 in games where both Butler and Curry suited up. Curry averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 assists overall last season while shooting 39.7 percent from three-point range and 93.3 percent at the free-throw line. His scoring average was his lowest for a full campaign since 2014-15, but once Butler arrived he posted 27.3 points per game and hit 40.8 percent from deep the rest of the regular season.
Playoff Run Cut Short by Injury
The Warriors edged Houston in seven games in the opening round, yet fell to Minnesota in five in the Western Conference semifinals after Curry suffered an injury 13 minutes into Game 1.
With training camp approaching, Curry said his offseason reflections always return to the same goal: securing another championship for Golden State.
