The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Thursday that Jarrett Allen sustained a broken left ring finger during pre-game warmups in Boston on Wednesday.

An X-ray taken Thursday confirmed a non-displaced fracture of the distal phalanx—the tip of the finger. The 27-year-old center felt discomfort but still played in the Cavaliers’ loss to the Celtics that night. He is listed as questionable for Friday’s home game against the Toronto Raptors.

Team medical staff plan to let the 6’11” big man continue playing while regularly monitoring the injury. According to the club, Allen will receive treatment to manage pain and swelling, and the finger will be re-examined frequently to determine whether surgery becomes necessary.

Allen’s setback adds to Cleveland’s early-season injury list. Starters Darius Garland (jaw) and Max Strus (knee) are already sidelined; Garland could return in the first half of November. Should Allen be forced to sit, reserves Dean Wade, Larry Nance Jr. and Thomas Bryant are candidates for increased minutes.
