The Dallas Mavericks will raise Mark Aguirre’s No. 24 to the rafters on January 29, 2026, the club announced Wednesday.

Aguirre Becomes Fifth Jersey Honoree

Chosen first overall in the 1981 draft, Aguirre averaged 24.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 566 regular-season games during nearly eight seasons in Dallas. He earned three All-Star selections before a 1989 trade to Detroit, where he contributed to back-to-back championships.

Speaking with The Dallas Morning News, the 65-year-old said the upcoming tribute left him “still a little shocking … it hasn’t sunk in.” Aguirre will join Derek Harper (No. 12), Brad Davis (No. 15), Rolando Blackman (No. 22) and Dirk Nowitzki (No. 41) as Mavericks players with retired numbers. “I’m a Maverick,” he added. “Yes, I went to Detroit, but I’m a Maverick.”

Russell Rebounds After Slow Start

Free-agent signee D’Angelo Russell struggled in Dallas’ first two losses, averaging 12.0 minutes and shooting 1-for-9 from the field. The guard responded Sunday against Toronto with 24 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals in 29 minutes, posting a game-high plus-26 in the 10-point win. “He never wavered … he came in and definitely changed the game,” teammate Anthony Davis said.

Flagg Posts Career Best, Then Tweaks Shoulder

No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg delivered 22 points, four rebounds, four assists and no turnovers in 29 minutes versus the Raptors, highlighted by an and-one dunk over Sandro Mamukelashvili. “Tonight was the first time we really gave the fans something to be on their feet for,” the rookie said.

Flagg appeared to injure his left shoulder Monday against Oklahoma City; trainers wrapped the joint during a timeout, but he later returned to action.

Lively Sidelined With Knee Contusion

Starting center Dereck Lively exited Sunday’s win after sustaining a right knee contusion and missed Monday’s game. Anthony Davis started in the middle with Daniel Gafford still recovering from a right ankle sprain.
