First-year guard VJ Edgecombe continues to impress in Philadelphia. After a 34-point NBA debut, the rookie added 15 points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals in Saturday’s victory over Charlotte. Center Joel Embiid praised the 19-year-old’s balanced approach: “Some nights, you’re not going to score. How else are you going to contribute? He’s doing it defensively and sharing the ball.” Edgecombe’s emergence gives the Sixers another option alongside Embiid and guard Tyrese Maxey as the club aims to remain among the Eastern Conference leaders.
Nets
Brooklyn dropped its third straight game with Sunday’s loss in San Antonio and lost forward Ziaire Williams to a lower-back contusion after a hard fall. “It just got real tight,” Williams said, adding that he hopes rest and treatment will allow a quick return.
The Nets were already without forward Haywood Highsmith (knee surgery) and rookie forwards Drake Powell and Danny Wolf (ankle sprains). Guard Cam Thomas, playing through a nasal fracture, said he will remain on the court without a protective mask. Rookie guard Egor Demin, 20, has shown an improved perimeter shot but said he is focusing on getting to the paint to create for teammates.
Trail Blazers / G League
The Rip City Remix, Portland’s G League affiliate, acquired 2024 first-round pick Dillon Jones from the South Bay Lakers in exchange for two future G League first-round selections and the rights to guard Will Richardson. Jones, the No. 1 selection in October’s G League draft, was taken 26th overall by Oklahoma City last June, saw limited NBA action, then was traded to Washington and waived before opening night. He is still owed $2.75 million in guaranteed salary.
Portland’s NBA roster is at the 15-man limit with all three two-way slots filled, so any move to bring Jones to the Blazers would require a vacancy.
