Free-agent guard Landry Shamet has reached a one-year agreement to return to the New York Knicks, agent George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday.
The deal keeps Shamet, 28, in New York for what will be his eighth NBA season. The 6-foot-4 guard appeared in 50 games off the bench last year, averaging 5.7 points and 1.2 rebounds while shooting a career-high 46.1% from the field and 39.7% from three-point range.
According to SNY’s Ian Begley, Shamet considered other offers but chose the Knicks to rejoin a locker room he enjoys and to help an Eastern Conference contender pursue a championship. His late-season surge included averages of 12.2 points and 3.3 made three-pointers over the final 10 regular-season games, during which he hit 49% of his shots from both the field and beyond the arc and was perfect at the free-throw line.
Long NBA Journey
Shamet was selected 26th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018 draft out of Wichita State and was traded during his rookie year. He has also suited up for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, and Phoenix Suns.
Competition for Roster Spot
The Knicks recently added guard Garrison Mathews on a training-camp contract, and the New York Post reported that Shamet is expected to battle for a regular-season roster spot. His new deal is non-guaranteed, leaving his role under first-year head coach Mike Brown uncertain when the 2025-26 season opens.
Shamet entered Knicks training camp ahead of the 2024-25 campaign but was waived after a preseason shoulder injury. He re-signed with New York in December 2024 and made his team debut the following day, later posting a season-high 29 points in the April 13 regular-season finale at Brooklyn.
Once the contract becomes official, Shamet will give New York 13 players on standard NBA deals. All three two-way slots remain open, and Kevin McCullar Jr. is still a two-way restricted free agent.
