PHILADELPHIA — Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe traded jerseys on Sunday night, capping the Lakers’ 113-107 win at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
James, 40, delivered 29 points, seven rebounds and six assists, including 10 straight points over the final five minutes to secure the result. The late surge came in his first appearance since his record double-digit scoring streak ended earlier in the week.
Edgecombe, selected third overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, called the post-game exchange a milestone moment.
“To be honest, that’s my favorite player growing up. The only reason I started playing basketball,” the 19-year-old guard told reporters. “To get his jersey means a lot to me. But I wanted to win. It would’ve felt better to win and get his jersey.”
The rookie finished with 15 points on 5-for-13 shooting, five rebounds and three assists. Despite the loss, he said witnessing James’ fourth-quarter takeover offered an invaluable learning experience.
James’ 22nd NBA season now includes victories over opponents born after his 2003 draft year, underscoring the length of his career and influence on players such as Edgecombe.
