Reserve guard Jordan Farmar poured in a career-best 24 points on Jan. 3, 2010, as the Los Angeles Lakers routed the Dallas Mavericks 131-96 at Staples Center, marking the club’s widest victory margin ever against Dallas.
The matchup pitted the defending NBA champions against a Mavericks squad sitting second in the Western Conference. Los Angeles set the tone immediately, racing to a 30-13 first-quarter lead and stretching the advantage to 64-39 by halftime.
Farmar hit 8 of 14 shots and went 6-for-8 from three-point range, leading a bench unit that accounted for 53 points. Fellow reserves Shannon Brown and Sasha Vujacic added 11 points apiece.
All five Lakers starters reached double figures: Andrew Bynum scored 19, while Lamar Odom and Kobe Bryant finished with 15 each. Odom also grabbed 15 rebounds and handed out six assists. Derek Fisher contributed 10 points.
The Lakers shot a blistering 63.4 percent overall, making 52 of 82 attempts. Their 35-point triumph eclipsed a 33-point win over Dallas recorded in 1993.
The lone setback came early when Pau Gasol, already dealing with soreness, strained his left hamstring in the first quarter and did not return.
Head coach Phil Jackson called the blowout a snapshot of how the team should perform at full strength. The victory occurred during a campaign that ultimately produced the second of three consecutive NBA Finals appearances.
Farmar’s personal best stood until 2014, when he scored 30 points as a member of the L.A. Clippers against the Sacramento Kings.
