San Antonio, TX — November 14, 2025: Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry spent pre-game warm-ups in a pair of Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Mambacita Sweet 16” sneakers before Friday’s NBA Cup matchup with the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center.

The appearance came two weeks after Curry and apparel partner Under Armour announced a mutual split that allows the four-time NBA champion to wear any brand on court for the first time since 2013. Under Armour still plans to release the Curry 13 in February 2026, while the Curry Brand will operate independently.

Asked about the footwear choice after scoring 49 points in Golden State’s 115-109 comeback victory, Curry said the gesture was meant to acknowledge late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and Bryant’s daughter, Gianna. “Just the idea of what he meant. I’ve talked about Kobe a lot, and that specific pair speaks for itself,” Curry told reporters via the NBA’s official X account. “It was something I wanted to take advantage of in that moment and pay tribute. I think it gave me some good energy tonight.”

Curry swapped the Kobe 6s for his Curry 12 “Eat Learn Play” player-exclusive model at tip-off, then later switched to a blue colorway of the Curry Brand Series 7 during the game. The Series 7 debuted in August.

The respectful nod underscores the long-standing mutual admiration between Bryant and Curry, who faced each other repeatedly during their NBA careers.
