SAN ANTONIO — One day after dropping 46 points against the San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry drew off-court attention by appearing without an official footwear partner for the first time since 2013.
Curry and Under Armour announced a “mutual split” this week, ending a 12-year relationship that began when the two-time MVP signed a deal worth about $4 million per season. Nike, which had offered $2.5 million to retain him in 2013, declined to match Under Armour’s offer, a move now regarded as a major miss.
Warm-up in Kobe 6 “Mambacita”
During pre-game warm-ups on Nov. 14, 2025 at Frost Bank Center, Curry laced up the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Mambacita Sweet 16.” The model is among the league’s most popular and pays tribute to the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.
Game-time Swaps
At tip-off, the four-time champion switched to a Curry 12 “Eat Learn Play” player exclusive. Mid-game, he changed again, this time opting for a blue colorway of the Series 7, a Curry Brand model that launched in August 2025.
Curry’s Statement on the Split
“Under Armour believed in me early in my career and gave me the space to build something much bigger than a shoe,” Curry said in a written statement. “What Curry Brand stands for, what I stand for and my commitment to that mission will never change.”
Although Curry Brand will now operate independently, Under Armour still plans to release the Curry 13 in February 2026.
On-Court Production Continues
The footwear changes did not slow Curry. He poured in 49 points in Friday’s NBA Cup matchup, leading Golden State to its second straight road win over San Antonio.
Curry’s next steps in sneaker free agency remain unclear, but his performance suggests any future partner will inherit one of basketball’s most marketable stars.
