The Los Angeles Lakers believe Tuesday’s 110-101 comeback win over the New Orleans Pelicans at Crypto.com Arena might mark a turning point in their uneven season.
Trailing for much of the night, Los Angeles closed the game on a decisive fourth-quarter surge to secure its third consecutive victory. Guard Marcus Smart finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks, helping the Lakers erase the deficit and seal the result.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve been in that position and had to fight back to get a victory,” Smart told reporters after the game. “We stayed locked in, stayed in control. It was chaotic with the officiating and everything going on, but we stuck with it and came out with the win.”
Smart said the manner of the victory—overcoming late adversity—could “change the trajectory” of the campaign. “Nights like this can kick our confidence up. The way we played tonight and over the last two games is what we know we’re capable of,” he added, noting consistency has been the roster’s main challenge.
Head coach JJ Redick credited Smart for “starring in his role” and delivering the defensive intensity the team needs each night. Los Angeles will attempt to extend its winning streak as it enters a crucial stretch of games.
