The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 111-103 defeat to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night, Oct. 5, 2025, at Chase Center in San Francisco, falling to 0-2 in the preseason.
Los Angeles rested several regulars—LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves among them—while Golden State deployed its starters for most of the first half. Despite the short bench, the Lakers opened the contest on a 7-2 run behind two early baskets from Deandre Ayton and a three-pointer by Gabe Vincent in his 2025 preseason debut.
Jarred Vanderbilt sparked the Lakers defensively, generating turnovers before converting a three-point play off a Vincent assist. The Warriors steadied themselves with a crafty layup from Stephen Curry and a three-point play by Jimmy Butler. Golden State edged in front 32-31 after one quarter, though Vincent beat the buzzer to keep Los Angeles within a point.
Vincent remained hot in the second period, connecting on back-to-back threes to retake the lead. Ayton and Vanderbilt continued to provide two-way production, while Jake LaRavia and rookie Dalton Knecht added scoring punch. The Warriors closed the half on a surge, however, and entered the locker room ahead 62-55.
Golden State carried that momentum into the third quarter. Moses Moody drilled multiple threes to spark a 12-2 spurt, prompting a timeout from first-year Lakers head coach JJ Redick. The Warriors eventually pushed their advantage to 24 points before turning the game over to two-way and Exhibit 10 players from both clubs.
The Lakers reserves trimmed the deficit to single digits in the final period but never fully closed the gap, sealing Golden State’s preseason-opening victory.
