LOS ANGELES — NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal believes age has not knocked LeBron James from the top tier of the league. In a video posted by Overtime, the four-time champion said he would still select the Los Angeles Lakers forward ahead of nearly every active superstar.

During the segment, O’Neal listed today’s elite players until he finally paused at reigning Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Before reaching that point, the Hall of Famer placed James above two consensus top-five talents, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Dončić.

James, 40, is preparing for his 23rd NBA season after averaging roughly 25 points per game for most of his career. Last year he earned All-NBA Second Team honors and finished sixth in MVP voting, reinforcing the durability and adaptability that have defined his tenure.

While speculation continues about where James might chase a fifth championship, his recent seasons in Los Angeles have shown few signs of decline. O’Neal’s endorsement underscores the perception that the league’s all-time leading scorer remains at least a top-15 performer, even as new talent emerges.

Extra time for golf — and praise from Stephen Curry

The Lakers’ early playoff exit gave James a longer offseason, which he has spent frequently on the golf course. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, an avid golfer himself, recently commended James for noticeable improvement in his swing, a skill the forward began showcasing in social-media videos.

As training camp approaches, James stays focused on both his longevity and the possibility of adding another title to his résumé—wherever that opportunity arises.
