Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic said he believes Luka Doncic is the “perfect” player to lead the franchise, praising the All-NBA guard during an appearance on ESPN LA.
“I think Luka is the perfect guy that we need in L.A. to carry us to that next championship,” Vujacic said, adding that Doncic’s talent “was way too big for the Dallas spotlight.” He also likened Doncic’s competitive streak to that of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, noting the Slovenian star “plays with a smile, but he wants to kill you.”
Doncic, 26, formally signed a contract extension with the Lakers on Aug. 2, 2025, during a press conference at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, California. The deal positions him as the centerpiece of the organization heading into the 2025-26 season.
To prepare for his first full season in purple and gold, Doncic underwent a rigorous offseason conditioning program that impressed Hall of Famer James Worthy, who said the guard’s revamped physique increases confidence in his ability to lead the team.
The Lakers have also shown public support for their new star. Team governor Jeanie Buss and vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka traveled to Poland to watch Doncic compete in EuroBasket, underscoring the club’s commitment to its franchise cornerstone.
