The Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to seven games on Sunday night, defeating the undermanned New Orleans Pelicans, 133-121, at Crypto.com Arena.
Playing the first half of a back-to-back, the Lakers rested LeBron James and Marcus Smart but still improved to 15-4. The Pelicans were likewise short on personnel, allowing Los Angeles to seize control early.
Fast start powered by Doncic
Luka Doncic buried two quick three-pointers, and Austin Reaves added free throws as the Lakers opened the game on a 17-4 run. Doncic poured in 20 points in the first quarter, helping Los Angeles build a 46-27 lead.
Reaves takes over in the second
With Doncic on the bench to start the second period, Reaves scored eight rapid points. The Lakers’ advantage ballooned to 26 before New Orleans rallied late in the half. Reaves beat the buzzer, sending Los Angeles to intermission in front, 77-57.
Pelicans close the gap, tempers flare
New Orleans trimmed the deficit to 14 early in the third quarter. Tension rose when Pelicans rookie Jeremiah Fears committed a hard foul on Doncic; both players received technical fouls after exchanging words. When the margin narrowed to 11, Doncic responded with six straight points, restoring a 108-92 cushion heading into the fourth.
Bench finishes the job
Reaves and Deandre Ayton handled much of the scoring while Doncic rested in the final period. Gabe Vincent’s three-pointer pushed the lead to 21, effectively sealing the outcome. Ayton exited late after bumping knees but the game was already decided.
