MINNEAPOLIS — Austin Reaves banked in a floater with 0.0 on the clock Wednesday night, giving the Los Angeles Lakers a 116-115 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center.
The game-winner capped a 28-point, career-high 16-assist outing for the third-year guard and pushed Los Angeles to 3-2 on the young season. The Lakers played without LeBron James, Marcus Smart and several others, while Minnesota missed Luka Dončić and Anthony Edwards.
LaRavia’s Hot Hand Builds 20-Point Cushion
Forward Jake LaRavia, starting for the second consecutive game, opened the scoring with a three-pointer and poured in 17 of his 27 points in the third quarter. His personal 8-0 burst early in the period stretched the Lakers’ lead to double digits and eventually to 95-75.
Los Angeles led 62-58 at halftime after Reaves fueled a late second-quarter surge. The Timberwolves, paced by Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels, trimmed an 11-point deficit entering the fourth and kept pressuring behind steady outside shooting.
Timberwolves Rally, Reaves Responds
Mike Conley’s three-pointer cut the margin to single digits with four minutes remaining, but Reaves immediately answered from deep. McDaniels later drilled another triple, and Randle followed a Lakers turnover with two straight baskets, the second giving Minnesota a 115-114 edge with 10 seconds left.
After a timeout, Los Angeles put the ball in Reaves’ hands. He drove into the lane and floated home the decisive shot as time expired, securing the Lakers’ second win over Minnesota in eight days.
Deandre Ayton added 16 points for Los Angeles, while Randle finished with 30 for the Timberwolves.
The Lakers conclude their two-game trip Friday in Memphis, opening group play of the 2025 Emirates NBA Cup against the Grizzlies.
