Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves was the subject of a brief but notable halftime meeting Tuesday night when his representative, Reggie Berry, approached agent Rich Paul at Crypto.com Arena, according to ESPN.
Berry spoke with Paul for more than five minutes near center court during the intermission of the Lakers’ matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. Sources told ESPN the conversation centered on comments Paul made on his “Game Over” podcast, where he floated the idea of Los Angeles sending Reaves to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for forward Jaren Jackson Jr.
Paul, who represents LeBron James and several other high-profile NBA players, suggested the hypothetical deal as a better long-term fit alongside Luka Doncic. The remarks generated discussion around the league even though no trade talks between the Lakers and Grizzlies have been reported.
Reaves, sidelined by a calf strain, has not appeared in a game since the injury but remains involved with the team. Head coach JJ Redick recently praised the 25-year-old for staying engaged during his recovery.
Paul’s public trade scenario sparked questions because of his broad influence and his direct ties to James. Tuesday’s halftime exchange appeared aimed at clarifying those remarks, and no further issues were reported.
Reaves continues his rehabilitation with no official timetable for return.
