Foxborough, Mass. — New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs paid tribute to Kobe Bryant in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos by wearing custom Nike Kobe VII cleats in the Patriots’ color scheme.
The white cleats featured a red outsole and interior, along with navy blue Swooshes, accents and laces. Veteran sneaker artist Mache designed the Olympic-inspired pair specifically for Diggs.
Offense was limited by blizzard conditions at Gillette Stadium, and Diggs finished with five receptions for 17 yards on six targets — the highest catch total for any player in the 10-7 Patriots victory. The win sent New England to Super Bowl LX, marking the franchise’s 12th appearance and Diggs’ first after previous conference-title losses.
The Patriots are expected to stick with their all-white uniforms for the Feb. 8 championship game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, increasing the likelihood that Diggs will lace up the custom Kobe VII cleats once again.
On the NFC side, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams to set up a Super Bowl LX matchup that echoes Super Bowl XLIX, when New England edged Seattle 28-24.
The Nike Kobe VII, designed by Eric Avar and released in 2011, introduced a modular insole system offering a choice between responsiveness and added cushioning. Originally priced at $140, the model remains popular for its Flywire construction and polyurethane shell.
