New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown believes LeBron James might be able to stretch his NBA career indefinitely, crediting the Los Angeles Lakers star’s rigorous fitness and recovery regimen.
Speaking before Sunday afternoon’s matchup at Crypto.com Arena, Brown praised the 41-year-old forward’s commitment to physical maintenance. “He’s such a phenomenal athlete. I don’t know anybody that takes care of their body better than he does, and he just seems like he could play forever,” Brown said.
Brown, who coached James earlier in their careers, added that seeing players he once guided now share the league with their own children highlights the veteran’s longevity. “His son playing in the NBA is just mind-blowing and that impacts me more than him retiring. I think he could play forever. That’s just my personal opinion,” he noted.
Year 23 Still Producing All-Star Numbers
James, now in his 23rd season, was selected to the 2026 All-Star Game despite missing the start of the 2025-26 campaign with a sciatica issue. Since returning, he has helped Los Angeles remain in the postseason hunt, reinforcing his reputation as a player who can still influence championship aspirations.
Peers such as reigning MVP Nikola Jokić have publicly acknowledged James’ place among the game’s legends, citing his sustained excellence as a benchmark for modern superstars.
Focus on Legacy as Retirement Looms
Although speculation about retirement grows, James recently said he hopes to be remembered as someone “who didn’t cheat the game” and devoted the necessary time to be great. For now, his on-court production and off-court preparation continue to support Brown’s belief that, physically, the four-time champion has yet to hit an immovable wall.
