Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James added another milestone to his résumé on Thursday night, moving past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leader in field goals made.
The 41-year-old entered the matchup against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena on March 5, 2026 needing three baskets to eclipse Abdul-Jabbar’s mark. Early in the contest, James sank a fadeaway turnaround jumper—the same shot that made him the league’s scoring leader in 2023—to claim the top spot.
Former Lakers great Magic Johnson quickly acknowledged the achievement on X (formerly Twitter). “I want to congratulate Lakers legend and superstar LeBron James on becoming the all-time leader for field goals made in NBA history — passing my Showtime Lakers teammate Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!” Johnson wrote on March 6.
Despite James’s record-setting night, Los Angeles fell to Denver in a closely fought game, repeating a pattern that also accompanied his scoring record three years earlier. The four-time champion, now in his 23rd NBA season, continues to produce at a high level while his long-term future with the Lakers remains unresolved.
Nuggets center Nikola Jokić praised James both during All-Star Weekend and again after Thursday’s contest, commending the veteran’s sustained excellence deep into his career.
