Slovenia finally entered the win column at EuroBasket 2025 on Sunday, and Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic did it in historic fashion. Playing at Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland, the 26-year-old guard produced 26 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in a 91-85 triumph over Belgium.
The performance made Doncic only the fifth player ever to record a triple-double of at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in EuroBasket competition. The exclusive list includes Stoijko Vrankovic (1993), Toni Kukoc (1995), Rares Mandache (2013) and Mateusz Ponitka (2022).
Doncic also surpassed 400 career EuroBasket points, joining fellow Slovenians Goran Dragic and Jaka Lakovic in that club. He is the youngest player since Tony Parker to hit the mark.
After opening the Group D slate with 34- and 39-point outings that ended in defeats, Sunday’s win propelled Slovenia to second place in the group standings pending other results.
Guidance from a Laker Legend
Back in Los Angeles, five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher offered advice to Doncic as the former Dallas Mavericks franchise player begins his first season with the Lakers, an organization where championship expectations are constant.
Doncic, already an NBA Finals participant, will have multiple opportunities to pursue a title in purple and gold while continuing to collect milestones for Slovenia on the international stage.
