Los Angeles, CA – April 6, 2026 — Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic will travel to Europe for specialized care on his Grade 2 left hamstring strain as he attempts to shorten his recovery timetable, agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball said Monday.
Duffy told ESPN’s Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin that the decision was made after consultations with Lakers medical staff and Doncic’s personal doctors. The 27-year-old All-Star suffered the injury during a March 31 blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder and is currently projected to miss the rest of the 2025-26 season.
Doncic had just completed one of the most productive months of his career before the setback, leaving Los Angeles without its leading scorer and primary playmaker. His absence is compounded by the loss of guard Austin Reaves, who is sidelined indefinitely with a Grade 2 left oblique strain.
Head coach JJ Redick faced criticism for allowing Doncic to play after the guard appeared to tweak his hamstring during the Thunder game. Redick later said the medical staff evaluated Doncic at halftime and cleared him to continue.
Los Angeles was in its best stretch of the season prior to the twin injuries. With Doncic and Reaves out, the Lakers must weigh the risks of an accelerated return against the long-term health of their cornerstone player.
