Slovenia’s preparations for FIBA EuroBasket 2025 received a major boost on Tuesday, Aug. 19, when Luka Doncic poured in 28 points to headline a 93–81 exhibition victory over Great Britain.
Playing in Ljubljana just three days after exiting a game against Latvia with an apparent knee injury, the NBA star showed no lingering issues. Doncic erupted for 21 points in his first 11 minutes and finished the night with six rebounds, 10 assists, three steals and one block in only 28 minutes of action.
Great Britain struggled to slow the 26-year-old guard, who attacked the rim repeatedly and hit 12 of his 14 free-throw attempts. His outside shooting was the lone blemish—he went 2-for-11 from beyond the arc—but Slovenia still carried a 75–52 cushion into the fourth quarter, allowing head coach Aleksander Sekulić to rest his leading scorer.
The win was Slovenia’s first of the exhibition slate as it gears up for EuroBasket, which begins Aug. 28. Concerns about Doncic’s health surfaced Saturday when a teammate slipped and collided with his knee against Latvia, forcing him to leave that game. Tuesday’s performance all but erased those worries.
What’s next
Slovenia closes its exhibition schedule on Aug. 21 against Serbia, led by three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic. EuroBasket group play opens Aug. 28 versus Poland, followed by a highly anticipated matchup with Group D favorite France on Aug. 30.
