Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic has pulled in more fan ballots than any other player in the league after the second round of returns for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, marking the first time in his career he has led overall voting.
The 26-year-old guard/forward, now in his first full season with the Lakers, is the NBA’s scoring leader and has helped Los Angeles secure one of the Western Conference’s best records. Speaking with Spectrum SportsNet, Doncic said the outpouring from fans is “pretty amazing.”
“It’s the first time that’s happened to me,” he said. “A kid from Slovenia can only dream about being in the NBA, let alone leading All-Star voting. I really appreciate all the votes.”
Fan support amplified by Lakers brand
Doncic has been voted an All-Star starter several times, but playing in purple and gold has boosted his profile even further. Teammate LeBron James has frequently dominated fan voting in past seasons; this year, Doncic moved to the top spot.
New format puts Doncic on international squad
The 2026 All-Star Game is set for Feb. 15. Under the league’s new format, the Slovenian standout will join an international roster that currently features Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Support for Trae Young’s fresh start
Doncic also expressed enthusiasm for longtime All-Star contemporary Trae Young, who was traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Washington Wizards. The two players have been linked since being swapped on draft night in 2018.
The NBA will announce final All-Star starters after voting concludes later this month.
