LOS ANGELES — March 27, 2026 — Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic is in danger of an automatic one-game suspension after being hit with his 16th technical foul of the season during Friday’s 125-119 win over the Brooklyn Nets at Crypto.com Arena.
The infraction was assessed late in the third quarter when Nets forward Ziaire Williams confronted Doncic following a foul. Doncic responded by shoving Williams out of his personal space, and Williams swung an arm that appeared to glance off Doncic’s face. Officials quickly issued double technicals.
Under NBA rules, a 16th technical triggers an immediate one-game ban. Unless the league rescinds the call, Doncic will miss Monday night’s home game against the Washington Wizards.
“He was yelling in my face three times. I just wanted to get out of there,” Doncic said postgame. “It’s a double tech, of course. I didn’t even talk. They said my push was exaggerated, which it obviously was not.”
The Mavericks star—acquired by Los Angeles last summer—had narrowly avoided suspension earlier this week when the league overturned what would have been his 16th technical. He had promised to curb his complaints to officials but now finds himself one whistle away from further disciplinary action.
Doncic has been pivotal to the Lakers’ 5-1 road swing in March, averaging more than 40 points per game, a scoring spree unmatched since Michael Jordan achieved the feat in 1987. Los Angeles is 42-32 and fighting for playoff positioning; losing its leading scorer, even for a single contest, could complicate the push.
The NBA is expected to review the incident before Monday’s tip-off. Until a determination is made, the Lakers must prepare for the possibility of facing Washington without their All-Star guard.
