Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has been selected the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week for games played March 16-22, the league announced. Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball received the honor in the Eastern Conference.
Doncic steered the Lakers to a 4-0 record during the period, posting averages of 42.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.0 steals while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Game-by-game highlights
• March 16 vs. Houston Rockets: 36 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 100-92 home win.
• March 18 at Houston: 40 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in another eight-point victory.
• March 19 at Miami Heat: Season-best 60 points along with seven rebounds, three assists and five steals in a 134-126 triumph. The performance came on the second night of a back-to-back after the team arrived in Miami at 5 a.m., with Doncic initially listed as questionable.
• March 22 at Orlando Magic: 33 points, five rebounds, eight assists and four steals in a narrow road win.
Award milestones
The recognition is Doncic’s league-leading fourth Player of the Week award this season and his second in as many weeks. It marks the 18th weekly accolade of his career. The 27-year-old was also named NBA Player of the Month for January and is a candidate for the same honor in March.
Upcoming schedule
Los Angeles concludes its trip with games against the Detroit Pistons on Monday and the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday before returning to Crypto.com Arena to host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night.
Technical foul rescinded
The NBA has overturned the technical foul Doncic received during the win in Orlando following an exchange with Magic center Goga Bitadze. The reversal prevents what would have been Doncic’s 16th technical of the season and an automatic one-game suspension. He remains one technical away from that threshold.
