Luka Doncic is set for his first full campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the All-NBA guard says he is excited to test himself against Stephen Curry when the Lakers host the Golden State Warriors on opening night of the 2025-26 season.

“For sure. As an opponent, obviously very hard to guard him,” Doncic said of Curry. “He’s moving all the time, he can shoot from anywhere, so I feel like it’s hard but also exciting. Going against a player like that, it’s very exciting, and for the first game to open up a season it’s going to be a great game.”

Doncic, 26, signed a three-year contract extension with Los Angeles on the first day he was eligible this past summer, solidifying his role as the franchise’s cornerstone. With LeBron James sidelined to begin the season, head coach JJ Redick will rely heavily on Doncic to direct the offense and set the tone defensively.

Golden State enters the season with an experienced roster that, when healthy, has shown it can contend with any team in the Western Conference. Slowing the Warriors’ constant ball movement and Curry’s long-range shooting will be a primary focus for a Lakers squad that struggled defensively throughout the preseason.

Los Angeles experimented with smaller lineups in exhibition play, leading to mixed results. Doncic, a 6-foot-7 guard capable of switching onto bigger opponents, acknowledged that the team’s physicality must improve before facing Golden State.

A win on opening night would give the Lakers an early boost and position Doncic for a strong start to what many expect could be an MVP-caliber season.
