Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic believes LeBron James’ vast postseason résumé will be a decisive factor in the franchise’s bid for another NBA title during the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking with Sports Central LA, the 26-year-old star said James’ four championships and overall experience elevate everyone in the locker room. “He’s one of the best basketball players ever, so just having him there is gonna help all of us,” Doncic said. “He knows what to do to win.”
Doncic and James shared the court briefly after Los Angeles acquired Doncic in a blockbuster deal late last season. Despite limited minutes together, the duo flashed the playmaking and scoring combination the organization hopes will anchor its offense. Assistant coach Greg St. Jean recently noted that an entire training camp should help the pair develop the chemistry needed to “unlock” the roster’s full potential.
Rumors surfaced early in the summer that the Lakers might pivot fully to Doncic if James opted to leave. While the 40-year-old forward has occasionally hinted at discontent, team sources maintain he remains committed to contending for a fifth ring.
Hall of Famer Charles Barkley echoed the growing sentiment that Los Angeles now revolves around Doncic, calling it “Luka Doncic’s team” on a recent broadcast. Even so, Doncic emphasized he still wants James by his side as the Lakers aim for the league’s top tier of contenders.
James and Doncic last appeared together on Feb. 10, 2025, in a win over the Utah Jazz at Crypto.com Arena. As camp approaches, both superstars will be tasked with translating their combined talent into the franchise’s 18th championship.
