Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic says his goal is to extend the franchise’s championship legacy established by Kobe Bryant and his current teammate LeBron James.
During a recent appearance on “Access Hollywood” with host Snoop Dogg, the 26-year-old star stated his intention to bring more banners to Crypto.com Arena. “Kobe brought so many championships here. LeBron brought a championship here. So I want to be the next one to do that, for sure,” Doncic said. “I met Kobe, I’m playing with LeBron. Just as a little kid in Slovenia, I just wanted to play basketball… and now I’m playing with the best.”
Doncic’s comments follow an offseason in which he overhauled his conditioning after being acquired by the Lakers and signing a contract extension. His fast start to the 2025-26 campaign has guided Los Angeles to a 12-4 record. With James back in the lineup, the club believes it can climb the Western Conference standings.
The four-time All-NBA guard reached the NBA Finals once with the Dallas Mavericks but has not yet captured a title. Bryant and James each secured championships within four seasons of debuting in purple and gold—a benchmark Doncic now targets.
Sharing the floor with James remains a highlight for the Slovenian playmaker. “Honestly, just sharing the court with him. It’s the 23rd season. It’s insane,” Doncic noted after James returned from injury. “He sees things that other people can’t. He’s here to help us all, so it’s amazing… I’m excited to play some more.”
The Lakers resume their schedule Friday night in Los Angeles as they continue their push toward what Doncic hopes will be the franchise’s next title run.
