The Los Angeles Lakers pushed their winning streak to three games on Monday night, defeating the Washington Wizards 120-101 despite playing without Luka Doncic and Marcus Smart.
Doncic was sidelined after receiving his 16th technical foul in the previous game against the Brooklyn Nets, while Smart remained out with an ankle contusion. Even with the absences, Los Angeles entered the matchup as a heavy favorite against a Wizards team focused on long-term development.
Washington seized an early advantage, but the Lakers flipped the script in the second quarter, executing on both ends to build a 21-point halftime lead. The Wizards mounted a third-quarter push, yet Los Angeles steadied in the fourth with efficient offensive possessions to close out the game.
LeBron James directed the attack throughout the night, finishing with a triple-double of 21 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. The 39-year-old repeatedly overpowered defenders in the paint and set up teammates for uncontested baskets.
Austin Reaves complemented James’ playmaking, recording 19 points, nine assists and three rebounds in under 30 minutes. Reaves consistently penetrated the lane, collapsing the Wizards’ defense and generating open looks for shooters and big men.
The Lakers’ frontcourt was equally efficient. Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes combined to shoot 13-for-13 from the field for 31 points. Hayes led the duo with 19 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-8 shooting, knocking down a rare three-pointer in the process.
Los Angeles completes its back-to-back set on Tuesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers before welcoming the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.
