Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James used his time away from the practice floor to share an encouraging message with a massive online audience Tuesday night.
Hours after missing the club’s first training-camp workout because of a minor glute injury, the 40-year-old veteran joined popular streamer Kai Cenat and spoke to viewers at the end of Cenat’s broadcast. According to the stream’s metrics, more than one million people watched concurrently.
James told the audience that “everyone has a purpose” and urged listeners to remain authentic and push through adversity. The appearance came on Sept. 30, 2025, one day before the four-time NBA champion turns 41 and ahead of his 23rd NBA season.
Injury update and preseason approach
Head coach JJ Redick said earlier Tuesday that the Lakers will take a measured approach with James during camp and preseason.
“It’s probably a little bit longer of a ramp-up leading into Opening Night,” Redick explained. “In Year 23, uncharted territory here. He probably did too much last year in camp. … We’re playing the long game with LeBron.”
Redick added that the forward is dealing with “a little bit of nerve irritation in the glute” but remains hopeful James will be ready for the season opener later this month.
The Lakers resume camp this week as they prepare for a congested Western Conference schedule and elevated external expectations.
