LOS ANGELES — LeBron James and his son Bronny shared a unique place in NBA history Friday night, connecting on the league’s first father-son assist as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Clippers 116-99 at Crypto.com Arena.

Head coach JJ Redick, with guard Marcus Smart unavailable, again deployed the pair together, marking the second straight game they logged meaningful minutes side by side. Early in the second quarter, LeBron drew a double team and swung the ball to Bronny on the left wing. The 21-year-old rookie calmly set his feet and buried a three-pointer, cementing the milestone play.

“I’m just not taking it for granted, being in the moment with us on the floor once again,” LeBron said postgame. “They were making a run, I got doubled, made the right play, and he knocked it down. Definitely a cool moment for us and for our family.”

The basket underscored Bronny’s growing confidence after spending time with the South Bay Lakers earlier in the season. Selected 55th overall in the 2025 draft, the former USC guard is working to carve out a permanent role in Redick’s rotation. His recent appearances suggest progress, with Redick trusting him in a competitive contest.

LeBron, now in his 23rd NBA season, dismissed the notion that Bronny’s roster spot exists solely because of their relationship. “At the end of the day, he belongs,” the four-time champion said, noting his son’s dedication to refining his game.

For the Lakers, the victory improved their record to 12-8 and offered a glimpse of a potentially historic storyline unfolding on their home court: a superstar father mentoring — and now assisting — his son at the highest level of the sport.
