The Los Angeles Lakers paused their April 7, 2026 contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder to recognize UCLA’s women’s basketball team, which recently claimed its first NCAA title. The ceremony took place at center court inside Crypto.com Arena, where the Bruins posed for photos and received a round of applause from the crowd.

UCLA captured the 2026 national championship on April 5 with a 79-51 victory over South Carolina, leading wire-to-wire in the title game. Center Lauren Betts, projected to be an early selection in the 2026 WNBA Draft, earned Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors for her two-way dominance. Guard Gabriela Jaquez also played a pivotal role throughout the tournament run.

While attending the Lakers game, Betts posted on social media about meeting LeBron James, calling the encounter “special.”

Lakers Fall Short on the Court

The celebratory mood did not extend to the home team’s performance. Playing without their Big 3 as well as Marcus Smart and Jaxson Hayes, the Lakers were routed by Oklahoma City. Los Angeles will try to regroup before traveling north to face the Golden State Warriors on Thursday.
