The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 24 as part of the inaugural NBA doubleheader on Amazon Prime Video, the league’s newest national broadcast partner.
Prime’s opening night telecast will feature two postseason rematches. The New York Knicks will meet the Boston Celtics in the early game, followed by Minnesota’s return to Crypto.com Arena to face the Lakers. Both contests revisit 2025 playoff series in which the Knicks eliminated the Celtics in the second round and the Timberwolves ousted the Lakers in five games during the first round.
Amazon’s entry into the NBA media lineup comes after TNT’s departure, with NBC and Peacock taking Monday slots and Prime carrying Friday games.
Early-season slate for Los Angeles
The Timberwolves matchup will be the Lakers’ second home game of the young season. Los Angeles is scheduled to open against the Golden State Warriors on the league’s traditional Opening Night, then visits the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 26. Minnesota returns most of its 2025 core, while the Lakers added center Deandre Ayton to address size issues exposed in last spring’s series.
NBA Cup assignments
The league also announced Group Play dates for the Emirates NBA Cup. Placed in West Group B, the Lakers will travel to face the Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans before hosting the L.A. Clippers and Dallas Mavericks.
