The Los Angeles Lakers on Monday released a new short film titled “Forever Iconic: Purple and Gold Always,” marking the creative-directing debut of Natalia Bryant, daughter of Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant.

The video, designed to show how Lakers culture reaches far beyond basketball, blends on-court highlights with images from fashion, entertainment, and daily life in Los Angeles. Clips of current stars Luka Dončić and LeBron James appear alongside archival footage of Kobe Bryant.

High-profile cameos

The production also features appearances by Los Angeles Dodgers two-way standout Shohei Ohtani, Lakers legend Magic Johnson, and actress—and longtime Lakers supporter—Brenda Song.

Natalia Bryant’s vision

“Everyone has their own connection to the Lakers,” Natalia Bryant said in a statement announcing the release. “I hope those who already love this team watch this project and remember what that pride feels like. And if you’re not a Lakers fan yet, I hope you watch this, and it makes you want to be.”

The film arrives with the 2025-26 NBA season approaching, underscoring the franchise’s worldwide following and its emphasis on family, a principle first championed by former owner Dr. Jerry Buss.

Bronny James earns praise

In a separate development, guard Austin Reaves applauded rookie teammate Bronny James—son of LeBron—for his progress during training camp and preseason. “You’ve been one of the better players on the floor almost every day,” Reaves told the 20-year-old after a recent round of golf, adding that James “just wants to compete and get better.”

The Lakers open preseason play next week, with the short film now streaming on the team’s official platforms.
