The Golden State Warriors are being viewed around the league as a realistic destination for LeBron James if the four-time MVP parts ways with the Los Angeles Lakers after the 2024-25 season, according to veteran reporter Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Stein noted that multiple rival teams “routinely” describe Golden State as one of the few credible options for James’ 24th NBA campaign. How the Warriors could create the cap flexibility to add the 41-year-old star remains uncertain, but significant salary would need to be moved.

Two large contracts frequently cited are those of Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler. Green, 36, is owed $27.6 million annually through the 2026-27 season. Butler, also 36 and recovering from a torn ACL, carries a $56.8 million expiring deal that could appeal to teams seeking financial relief.

James has already adjusted to a reduced role in Los Angeles, allowing Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves to shoulder more of the offense. The shift has coincided with a nine-game winning streak and has left the veteran forward looking revitalized.

The Lakers attempted to secure James’ long-term commitment by selecting his son, Bronny James, in the 2024 NBA Draft. After extensive G League time with the South Bay Lakers, the 21-year-old guard has grown more comfortable at the professional level. He and his father shared the court Friday against the Brooklyn Nets, combining for the first recorded father-to-son assist in league history.

While LeBron has accomplished nearly everything over his two-decade career, he has repeatedly emphasized that playing alongside his eldest son is an experience he does not take for granted.
