An internal agreement tied to the $10 billion sale of the Los Angeles Lakers to investor Mark Walter granted sizable cash payouts to several longtime members of Jeanie Buss’ inner circle, ESPN reported.

According to the report, team executive Linda Rambis, external advisors Tim McCormack and David Grigsby, and president of business operations Tim Harris were each allotted $24 million. Basketball consultant Kurt Rambis was slated to receive $8 million. In total, the bonuses reached $114 million.

The figures deliberately referenced the jersey numbers of franchise icon Kobe Bryant—No. 24 and No. 8—who spent his entire 20-year career with the organization.

The payouts were negotiated without the knowledge of Buss family members outside Jeanie, the report said. The revelation surfaced after Joey and Jesse Buss, the franchise’s two youngest siblings, were dismissed from their front-office roles in the wake of the ownership transfer.

Family tension around the club is longstanding. In 2017, Jeanie Buss removed her brother Jim Buss from the position of executive vice president of basketball operations. The latest developments highlight further divisions as the franchise transitions under new majority ownership while Jeanie Buss remains team governor for the next five years.
