Former NBA MVP Steve Nash has pinpointed his most memorable moment against Kobe Bryant, highlighting Game 6 of the 2010 Western Conference Finals between the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.
Speaking on “NBA on Prime,” Nash recalled the pivotal sequence that shifted the best-of-seven series. After the teams were tied 2-2, Bryant missed a potential game-winner at Staples Center, only for teammate Metta World Peace to convert a last-second put-back. “We thought, ‘We’ll get them at home; they haven’t beaten us there,’” Nash said.
The series moved to Phoenix, where Bryant delivered a 37-point performance that Nash called “unbelievable.” Guarded closely by Grant Hill, Bryant connected on deep, contested jumpers to close out the Suns and avoid a winner-take-all Game 7.
The Lakers, an experienced roster led by Bryant, advanced to the NBA Finals and captured the franchise’s 16th championship by defeating the Boston Celtics in seven games. That season, Bryant earned First-Team All-NBA and First-Team All-Defensive honors, cementing his fifth title in 14 postseason appearances.
The interview coincides with renewed attention on Bryant’s career milestones. January 22 marked the 20th anniversary of his 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors, a feat referenced in a commercial featuring former opponent Jalen Rose. Lakers governor Jeanie Buss recently noted her fondness for that advertisement, which playfully revisits the historic scoring night.
