The Los Angeles Lakers opened their eight-game road swing with a come-from-behind win over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night, and veteran guard Marcus Smart proved pivotal. Smart scored all 15 of his points after halftime, buried several three-pointers, and helped hold Jamal Murray to just two second-half points at Ball Arena.

The victory was timely for a roster that will not play at Crypto.com Arena again until Feb. 5—the day of the NBA trade deadline, when the Lakers will host the Philadelphia 76ers. With potential moves looming, Smart acknowledged the uncertainty players face each season.

“It’s part of the business,” the 11-year guard told Spectrum SportsNet. “You build relationships with the guys next to you, and any day one of you could be gone. It’s tough, but we’re professionals and have to handle it.”

Los Angeles entered the trip after a stretch of uneven results, sparking speculation about possible roster changes. Smart said the extended time away from home could help the group regroup and “get back on track.”

The Lakers may also receive a boost when guard Austin Reaves, sidelined recently, is expected to rejoin the lineup at some point during the road trip.
