The NBA announced that Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has been named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played March 9–15.
Doncic powered the Lakers to a 3-0 record during the period, delivering victories over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets. Across those contests, the Slovenian star averaged 37.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 11 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks, posting two triple-doubles.
Game-by-game breakdown
March 9 vs. Timberwolves: 31 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, two steals and one block.
March 12 vs. Bulls: 51 points—his highest total since joining Los Angeles—along with 10 rebounds, nine assists, three steals and one block.
March 15 vs. Nuggets: 30 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists, one steal and three blocks, including the overtime game-winning shot.
The weekly accolade is Doncic’s third since arriving in Los Angeles and the 17th of his NBA career. He previously claimed the honor in early December and late January and was selected Western Conference Player of the Month for January.
Looking ahead, the Lakers face a challenging slate that features consecutive games against the Houston Rockets as they try to solidify the West’s No. 3 seed.
After edging Denver, Doncic praised the environment inside Crypto.com Arena. “I feel like it was the best atmosphere since I was a Laker,” he said. “The whole crowd was in, it was special to witness that… I had goosebumps a little bit.”
